Digitally Signed Payments Mechanism Introduced at Temetra

21-Jan-2003

As part of the rollout of its billing module, Temetra has introduced a digitally signed payment mechanism. This allows Local Authorities and other users of the Temetra Metering system to submit payment amounts for billing accounts, secure in the knowledge that payments appearing on bills can only be submitted by authorized individuals.

Use of well established digital signature and encryption technology means that only the holder of the relevant key has the authority to submit payments to a meter network and these payments are held by Temetra in digitally signed form. It is not possible for any other user or administrator of the Temetra system to introduce payments without this authorization key.

This payment mechanism supplements the existing billing output from Temetra, with the XML to PDF translation allowing customers full control over the formatting of their bills.

Standard Digital Signature Technology

The Electronic Commerce Bill was signed in 2000 by the Irish government, introducing legal status to digital signatures, and this is the same technology used in Temetra to ensure security of payment.
