Frequently Asked Questions
-
How secure is access to the system?
All data is stored on a server in a secure co-location facility and access to networks is partitioned depending on the logged in user. We provide basic username & password access to the system, but can optionally limit access from certain access points. If this is insufficient, we can for an additional fee preclude access from any PC that doesn't contain the correct software key.
-
Are there different levels of access to the data?
Yes, each user is given access to certain levels of the network. For example, a meter reader might be only able to see routes, but not edit or create new meters on the route. A network administrator can edit and create meters on the route, and a senior engineer may have access to several networks and generate reports across several network areas.
-
Is the web-interface the only way to access the data?
No, you can also download all the read data to your local PC as an XML file or CSV file. This allows you to manipulate all the data or view it in spreadsheet format without access to the Internet.
-
What reports are available?
We supply basic reports such as raw read data and consumption reports. Several more advanced reporting options are available, depending on the capability of the advanced data from the meter such as leakage, audit and tamper reports.
-
Is the data accessible in any browser?
Yes. We are validated W3C HTML 4.01 transitional and test on a variety of browsers for compatibility, including Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mozilla, OmniWeb and Opera. If you access your data in the field using a microbrowser on a phone or palmtop, let us know if we can improve formatting.
-
How do I collect a route and return the data?
The most popular and cost effective method of data collection is a walk-by system with wireless telemetry. In this case, you use your handheld and modem to collect a route from the temetra system and then walk or drive the route to read all the meters. When complete, use the modem to send the data back to the temetra system, where it will become accessible on the website.
This modem can be a GSM modem such as Wavecom, in which case the route collection and data upload can all be done in the field. In other words, the reader can access temetra from their car, but the read data is available back at the office using the temetra website.

When I try to log in, I get "an error occured in the secure chanel support". What can I do?
Temetra uses the most up to date security to protect your data, but some very old browsers do not support this level of security. Specifically, this may occur if you have the original Internet Explorer that comes with Windows 98 and you have not applied any of the security updates from Microsoft. You can find more information about the problem from Microsoft here and here.
If these tips don't solve your problem, or you cannot update your browser, we provide limited access to Temetra without SSL. Login without SSL encryption
We recommend you use the normal SSL login wherever possible, accessible from the home page.
